The argument in favor of using filler text goes something like this: If you use any real content in the Consulting Process anytime you reach.

Rising trot (sometimes called posting) is the first real technique most riders learn, and it is often the first thing that makes them feel like a complete beginner again. That's normal. In sitting trot you absorb the movement passively; in rising trot you have to move in time with a two-beat rhythm, and if your timing is out by half a stride you will be bounced around like laundry in a machine.
The good news is that rising trot is not something you do to the horse. It is something the horse's movement does to you — if you let it. Your job is to allow the shoulder to lift you out of the saddle and to stay balanced enough not to fight the rhythm.
Beginners usually count "up, down, up, down" or simply follow the rider in front. That gets you round the school on a steady horse, but it falls apart the moment you ride on your own, and it never teaches you to feel the diagonal.
Instead, learn to feel the outside foreleg. In trot the legs move in diagonal pairs: as the outside foreleg comes back under the horse's body and takes weight, the shoulder rises — that is your cue to rise with it. Sit softly as the shoulder drops away again.
If you cannot feel it yet, use your eyes for a few laps:
Being on the wrong diagonal will not hurt the horse, but you will be out of balance with the movement, and bending and steering become far harder than they need to be.
The most common cause of a jarring, exhausting rise is leaning forwards. Riders push their weight towards the horse's shoulders in an effort to stand up, which tips the body forwards, blocks the hips and turns a light movement into hard labour.
Think of rising as moving your hips forward and up in a shallow arc, with your weight staying over the stirrup tread. Your upper body stays close to upright, with a small allowance from the hip rather than a fold at the waist, and your lower leg stays long and still.
A useful image: a line running from your ear, through shoulder and hip, down to your heel. It stays roughly the same from the sit to the rise. If your shoulders shoot forwards, your heels shoot back and your lower leg swings.
When a rider feels insecure, the instinct is to grip. Knees clamp inwards, thighs squeeze, the lower leg creeps back — and your hip joints lock up. Those hips are exactly what need to open and close freely for a smooth rise.
Gripping affects the horse too. A vice-like knee rotates your lower leg outwards onto his side, and constant pressure there can make a sensitive horse rush or become dull to the leg.
Short bursts of good work beat long, tiring slogs around the school every time.
Give it time and be patient with yourself. Most riders need a few weeks of regular riding before rising trot stops being something they think about. Once it clicks you will wonder what all the fuss was about — and you will have a tool you use in almost every session from then on.
